To our brave young troops, especially those fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Happy Independence Day.

I hope you come back safe and in one piece. I hope you don't end up homeless like so many Other Vets did. I hope your government keeps you properly equipped for the dangerous job it sent you to do. I hope that the government and the free media don't lie about why you are daily risking life and limb--it's the very least they owe you. I hope it supports you and your families, with benefits appropriate for the perils you face for our country, and for your incredible bravery.

Come home soon.

Happy Fourth! Although I think you are British so I mean that in a spirit of letting bygones be bygones.

BRITISH??!! I'm American. I have red, white and blue stripes all over me.

Sorry....I'm so sorry...I think it was the English in the name of your blog that fooled me!! I feel so differently about you now...I thought you were just another cynical Brit secretly mourning that the sun had set on your empire. But you're American. That makes all the difference. I have been restrained in posting on your blog as I did not want to be guilty of ugly Americanism...no danger that with you being one of us. What's this crap about wanting to be Canadian? Hah! I don't believe it.

Ha ha ha! I was wondering why you were being so polite. I was starting to think you were Canadian.

Well I am generally polite when I post on other people's blogs, but especially so if it's someone from another country. I try to be a little gentler then because I know they generally aren't used to arguing with each other incessantly the way we Americans love to do. But another American? don't have to be so diplomatic, especially when they hold such bone-headed views as you often espouse on this blog of yours. It's my patriotic duty to instruct you in the error of your ways, with no real hope of changing your mind but I feel that I must, I must try to save you from yourself. It's probably all that sushi you're eating over there.

Ha! The funny thing is when I read that, I'd actually just finished eating some sushi.

AND it is my patriotic duty to do my best to remove the "patriotic" rose-colored glasses through which you've apparently been regarding the world, and fit you with a new set, whose lenses are clear of any vitiating and brain-polluting particulates. I admit that some of my entries are bone-headed, because I intentionally fashion them that way (the "Brats" entry is an example); 'tis called humor. On the other hand, there are some things I'm very serious about, and one of them is that since 9/11, my country has done a lot of horrendous things. So many crimes, so flagrantly committed, that the most beleaguering task for me is not ennumerating them all (I refuse to, because so many others have already done it) to people who are ignorant, but figuring out why so many intelligent Americans remain bone-headed enough not to recognize, or care about, the nastiness that has happened under their noses.

p.s. Sushi is a damn sight healthier that hamburgers.

It's our God given right to remain ignorant. I just ate some yogurt....but I did have a meatball sub for lunch.

I had a huge plate of spaghetti brimming with meat sauce, so I am a hypocrite. Maybe that's my god-given right.

P.S. You didn't "take over" my blog. Nice to have an intelligent exchange. Happy 4th, Saije!
